28 sceptres royaux du Dahomey remis au Benin ce vendredi

Le patrimoine royal du Bénin se reconstitue petit à petit. Selon une information rapportée par Radio France Internationale (RFI), une collection d’oeuvres d’art de l’ancien royaume du “Danxomè” sera restituée ce vendredi 17 janvier 2019. Cette opération, facilitée par le galeriste français Robert Vallois se fera au petit musée de la récade de Lobozounkpa, situé dans la commune d’Abomey-Calavi.
La collection de pièces à restituer est constituée de 28 récades de même que des sabres et des objets de culte. Selon la même source,ces objets d’arts ont été collectés et emportés du Bénin lors de l’expédition menée à la fin du XIX ème siècle contre le Dahomey par la France. N’eût été la diligence de la galerie Vallois soutenue par un collectif d’antiquaires français et africains, ces pièces historiques auraient dû faire l’objet d’une vente aux enchères à Nantes en 2019.
Il convient de préciser que cette collection ne fait pas partie des oeuvres d’art entreposées au musée du Quai Branly et dont la restitution au Bénin a été promise par le président Macron à son homologue béninois Patrice Talon, courant avril 2018.
