L’ancien premier ministre béninois fait depuis quelques mois des sorties médiatiques sur l’actualité économique de son pays. Après avoir salué les prouesses du régime de Patrice Talon sur le plan agricole il y a seulement quelques semaines, Lionel Zinsou est à nouveau monté au créneau. Dans une interview à ‘’Jeune Afrique’’, le banquier applaudit le succès de l’émission d’eurobonds par le Bénin début Janvier. Selon le média international, l’ancien candidat malheureux à l’élection présidentielle de 2016, où il a été battu au deuxième tour par Patrice Talon, refuse systématiquement d’aborder l’actualité politique béninoise. Même si l’économiste ne s’est pas officiellement retiré de la politique, tout porte à croire que c’est une parenthèse qui est fermée. Pour le moment, en tout cas.

Selon ‘’Jeune Afrique’’ « pas la peine d’essayer de lui faire parler de politique. Alors que le Bénin s’apprête à entrer dans la campagne pour la présidentielle du 11 avril prochain, lors de laquelle Patrice Talon briguera un second mandat, Lionel Zinsou, candidat malheureux à la présidentielle de 2016 face au président sortant, ne veut pas en dire un mot ». Lors de sa dernière sortie médiatique, il n’a été pour lui que question d’économie alors le pays se dirige vers une élection présidentielle dans quelques semaines.
« Désormais, poursuit ‘’Jeune Afrique’’, l’ancien Premier ministre de Thomas Boni Yayi, qui l’avait désigné pour porter les couleurs de son parti lors de la dernière présidentielle, semble vouloir tourner la page de la ‘’politique politicienne’’. Des difficultés de l’opposition béninoise à ses propres déboires judiciaires – en février 2020, il a été condamné en appel à quatre ans d’inéligibilité dans une affaire de dépassement de frais de campagne – il ne sera pas question. Lionel Zinsou veut se concentrer sur son métier de banquier. Il parle en revanche du caractère « historique » de la double émission d’eurobonds réalisée par le Bénin. « Au risque de fâcher l’opposition », ajoute le magazine.

Mais s’il n’y a pour le moment aucune certitude, tout porte à croire que Lionel Zinsou s’est retiré de la politique. A 66 ans, il sera plus éligible à la présidence de la République du Bénin après l’élection du 11 Avril prochain. De plus, il n’était pas un homme politique. Il a fait ses premières armes en tant qu’éphémère premier ministre de Boni Yayi qui le jugeait seul capable de perpétuer son action politique. Ce qui n’a pas été de l’avis des Béninois en 2016. La politique a-t-elle été une parenthèse pour Lionel Zinsou ? L’avenir éclairera les uns et les autres.
